Ever since I was young, I can remember sitting in the car with my dad listening to a new rock album he had just bought. I guess you can say it was sort of a tradition; now it's the same way except he always points out the songs with the best bass lines. Knowing how to play the upright bass not only affects me, but my dad as well. He always encourages me to play and it's his support that makes me believe that I should love what I do. I started learning how to play the piano when I was 7 and once I entered high school I switched most of my attention to learning the upright, which I can say is my primary instrument. Who would have thought that I would pick the largest instrument at my disposal when there were so many others to choose from? Even I wonder why I picked the upright.
Another hobby I am just as surprised by is sculpting. Maybe these "surprising" hobbies aren't so surprising, and that's mainly why I decided to change my major from premed to media. Although I decided to change my major, I can't seem to completely shake off all of the things I learned in those courses. When I consider all of the things I have learned, I can see myself in game development, something that incorporates both art and science, two things that have had a major influence in my life. I have loved playing games from a young age and I would love to have the ability to influence people and make them feel the way games have made me feel and potentially teach them something about themselves. If I can help a kid grasp the idea from a game about the immune system that a career in biology isn't for them, it would be a pretty great thing.
