Sound Walk

The five sounds I heard on my sound walk included dog tags, sirens, an idling bus, cares driving over metal grates, and a passing train.

Three dog tags I heard were clanking together, which produced very high pitched sounds. There was a playful feeling from these sounds, which were delicate at the same time, as if the tags could break any second. The noise was almost like a jingle and this made me happy because I could just imagine a dog running around playfully.

The sound of the ambulance sirens were very loud and repetitive. They included high and low pitches, which reminds me of a glissando because the pitches were sliding from one pitch to another. The sirens were persistent and full . They made me feel anxious and slightly annoyed because they were never-ending.

While the bus was idling standing by, it produced a rich and deep sound with a consistent sound of rattling metal in between. The pumping of gas into the air was also consistent. And when the bus started moving, it produced a screeching sound that made me feel a bit angry because it was extremely loud and high pitched.

The constant sound of cars driving over the metal grates was heavy and low pitched. It produced a sound off a very heavy piece of metal clanking against another heavy piece of metal, which was very full and round. This sound made me feel strangely calm and at ease since it was so full and round; it was also nostalgic.

While passing the train station, which was above and to my right, I heard consistent banging of the train wheels on the tracks. This hitting provided me with the image of a lonely train at night with very few people waiting for it and riding it. This sound made me feel closer to home and sightly comforted.
