Scene Analysis Assignment
The first thing we thing we see in the video is a jump cut
from the driving car to the stationary scene at the gas station. This scene
begins with the 180 rule as the direction follows Clark while he tries to find
the gas cap. While following the 180 rule, there is a jump cut to the woman
filling her tank. After we see the woman filing the tank, there is a graphic
match cut to Clark standing behind his car, trying to find the gas cap under
the license plate. The next scene after Clark reaching for the license plate is
a matched scene because it shows where the license plate is being thrown, while
still following the 180 rule. There is then a jump cut to the scene, still
following the 180 rule from before, where Ellen is at the front of the car
searching for the gas cap. This scene transitions with an eyeline match to the
next scene where she is looking at Clark and he is looking back at her.
The shots all include the same content as they all follow
Clark’s actions in trying to figure out where the gas cap is, and the content
involving both the woman on the left and Ellen, all contribute to the same idea
regarding the cap. The color of the scenes matches each other and are very
consistent, and although the first initial scene is different, the lighting
still matches because it is daylight in the upcoming scenario. All of the
movement in the scene of the gas station follows the 180 rule since Clark is
always on the left side of the shot.
