MOMI Visit

I found it really interesting how the museum explored the way movie sets use props in order to create visuals that would not be possible with the sole use of human actors. This exhibit showed how technology is used in order to code movements into props, such as the one used in The Exorcist, when the girl's head spins around 360 degrees. There was essentially a robot in the place of the actress for that scene and along with this, there were also visual techniques with the film used in order to superimpose this "robot's" face onto the actual face of the actress to make the character look more seamless.
Another prop I found to be very interesting was the giant sweater used in A Nightmare On Elm Street when the souls are escaping from within Freddy. The production team created a sweater that was large enough to fit actual actors within it in order to minimize the amount of props they had to create to make the scene. The actors portrayed the souls in the scene and they were escaping and ripped the actual sweater apart.
Moving image technologies have vastly affected moving images and these examples clearly show the impact of production techniques on film sets. These two props allowed for visuals that couldn't have been imagined by audiences and they helped create the scary atmosphere the movies intended.
